Mac Thornberry was raised on his family's ranch in Donley County, Texas, near Clarendon. At an early age, he was taught the importance of faith, family, and putting in an honest day's work. He is one of the few Members of Congress with an agricultural background and knows firsthand what making a living from the land is all about.
Mac and his wife, Sally, have been married since 1986 and have two children, Will and Mary Kemp.
In Congress he serves on two important committees: the Armed Services Committee and the Intelligence Committee.
On the Armed Services Committee, he has played a key role in ensuring that America's national defense remains strong, that our nuclear deterrent is safe and reliable, and that the military is ready to meet future threats.
Working to see that each taxpayer dollar is spent wisely and efficiently has been one of Mac's priorities. He is committed to reducing the tax burden on working families and businesses.
Mac introduced legislation in March 2001, six months before the attacks of 9/11, to create a Department of Homeland Security. On the Intelligence Committee, Mac chairs the Subcommittee on Oversight and is pushing for common sense steps to make America safer.
